Nutrition Education Program
What is the goal of the Nutrition Education Program?
The goal of KYNEP in Jefferson County is to educate and support limited resource families, adults, youth, and elders in the community to plan nutritious meals on a limited budget, acquire safe food handling practices, improve food preparation skills, and change behavior as needed to lead a healthy lifestyle. Direct education is delivered using evidence-based, customized curriculum through a consecutive series of classes over multiple sessions.
Nutrition education programs for both adults and youth are offered in a variety of settings throughout the county, with focused efforts in areas of higher need, including public schools, adult day centers, public housing, recovery facilities, community centers, and food banks, among others.
The Jefferson County KYNEP team also works to support the local food system through farmers markets, community, school and recovery gardens, and partnering with community organizations to improve equal access to fresh, nutritious foods.
